Small Town Survival — Groceries

Moultonborough is exactly what you think it is.  A very, very, small New England town.  There are a lot of things missing here.  McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy’s, Fridays, Chilis, Walmart, Home Depot…all missing!  You’ll find some local places around that are quite cool.  That’s the point.  Try something new.  Here are a couple of tips that might add some convenience:

Hannafords in Meredith – The closest full-service grocery store is Hannafords down in Meredith.  If you are coming from I-93, it’s on the way.  When you turn off Route 3 to Route 25, it’s on the left.  Stop in and stock up.  Its 10 miles on a slow road and not convenient to come back and forth.  They also have a full-service Pharmacy.

Skelley’s in Moultonborough – A whole lot closer to the house is Skelley’s.  About 5 minutes up the road.  It’s a beefed-up convenience store on Route 109.  You might be surprised what you will find here.  If you forgot something, check it out.  They might have it.  Bread, beer, Coke, mustard, pickles, wine, napkins, toilet paper, paper plates…quite a lot.  Even some exotic spices and drinks.  They also serve prepared food.  One thing I can recommend there is the Lobster Roll.  A crazy amount of lobster stuffed into a bread bun.  You can make 2 sandwiches from this meat.  It’s awesome.  Second, they have real, locally made ice cream.  Try the Maine Black Bear.  My girlfriend’s favorite.  They are all good and very creamy.  You’ll find it’s a popular place in the summer.  I might end up here once a day if I’m especially forgetful.

Excellent Convenience Store. Surprising Selection
